This approach results in exactly the same JAA licence as the ‘complete’ course approach, however, your training is conducted in discrete ‘modules’ of training, which may be provided by a number of different training providers, and you may spread the training over an extended period, working full-time or part time on your training.
The first part of the training does not have to be approved by the JAA; before commencing the JAA approved modules you must have completed 150 hours of flying time, be the holder of a Private Pilot’s Licence (which does not have to be a JAA licence) and before commencing the CPL module, you have to have completed your JAA Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence theory examinations. A PPL takes about 45 hrs, so is we regard the non-JAA approved part of the requirement as 2 ‘modules’; the PPL and ‘hour building’, the array of modules looks like this:
