Phase 6 of Flight Training

Phase 6

With your theory examinations behind you, you will be able to concentrate full-time on flying training. At our Bristol Airport Training Centre you will, over approximately 14 weeks, conclude your single-engine training and take the Commercial Pilot’s Licence (“CPL”) Skills Test, convert to multi-engine aircraft, and take your Instrument Rating (“IR”).

The training will start by looking at differences between flying in South Africa and European airspace. Next you’ll prepare for the CPL Skills Test, which will be flown with either the resident CAA Staff Examiner, or a CAA appointed examiner.

Your conversion to multi-engine aircraft will include some ground training and an examination, and you’ll learn to fly the larger aircraft and deal with the failure of one engine. There is another Skills Test, for the purposes of awarding you your Multi-Engine Piston class rating.

The IR training commences in a simulator where you will consolidate the instrument flying skills you acquired in South Africa, before you apply them in the intense European controlled airspace environment. Our experienced instructors will prepare you for your IR Skills Test which you’ll fly from Bristol with a CAA Staff Examiner, on passing which you will have completed all the training and testing to allow you to apply for your commercial licence.
